  We were producers when we made things that others wanted to buy.

  

 We were consumers when we spent the money we earned, by buying things we wanted to have.
 

The Center for Puppetry Arts

            
 
The first graders had a great time at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. We got to make our very own fish puppets. We watched a puppet show about a Japanese folk tale about a one inch boy who defeats an evil creature who is trying to destroy everyone in the village. He ends up getting one wish and wishes to be tall. He makes the king very happy and he marries the princess. They both live happily ever after. First graders are studying folk tale heroes and how their character traits exemplify our country's national heritage. Please enjoy the following pictures of our fun day.

Planting Our Seeds

   
  
   
We planted our lima bean seeds and will monitor them over time. We will record data on a table each day. We have fun taking care of our future plants. We water them ourselves. We put them by the window to get sun and warmth. We are anxious to see what will happen. Stay tuned for more information...

We observed dry and wet lima bean seeds so we could compare and contrast them. We then dissected the wet seed to identify and label the parts of the seed. We found the seed coat, food storage, and embryo. The embryo is the "baby" plant. Next, we planted lima bean seeds in soil. We Love Science!

The scientists in Room 38 conducted an experiment to determine if air could create force. We filled a balloon with air, attached it to a straw on a string, then let the air escape. We had fun seeing how far we could make the balloon travel along the string by increasing the amount of air we blew into it each time. We finally made it go 50 feet! Science is so much fun!

Room 38 Presents the Classic, "Stone Soup: A Rock Opera".

We had a great time rehearsing and performing "Stone Soup" for our families and for the other first grade students at Milford. We received lots of compliments on our play performance. Thank you to all members of our audience who came and enjoyed an afternoon of dramatic theater. Thanks to all the narrators, villagers, and soldiers who practiced so diligently to learn their lines and to use a big acting voice. Soup from a stone---Fancy that!

    

Welcome Miss Lowe!

Miss Lowe has joined us for a few months as she completes her coursework to receive her teaching credential. We think she is already an awesome teacher! We are thrilled to have her as a part of our class and appreciate all her help!!

Look what we can do!!

     

Today we impressed the 5th graders in Miss Stoker's class by reading really big words. The words had prefixes and suffixes. We learned that prefixes and suffixes change the meanings of the root or base words. It was really fun to see how surprised the 5th grade students were that we could read the words.

We got to read our words to Mrs. Feezor too. She gave us 5 Bobcat Paws for doing such a great job! We were very proud!!
