Happy New Year!!!

I can't believe that we are already in January! We have a lot of fun things coming up in the second half of the year. We will soon be celebrating the 100th Day of Kindergarten. We will be having a Winter Rotation Day with all of the kindergarten classes. In social studies, we will be learning about national monuments, such as the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. In science, we will be learning about the physical properties of objects. Please continue reading with your child every night and practicing the kindergarten sight words. I look forward to having a great second half of the year with your child!

November News

We have had a great time in kindergarten so far! We had so much fun on our field trip to Imagine It Children's Museum!

November is a busy month filled with Anti-Bullying Week, VIP Luncheon, and a Thanksgiving Rotation Day! I hope to see all of you at our Thanksgiving VIP Lunch on Wednesday, November 17th. Our cafeteria staff cooks up a wonderful meal of turkey, dressing, potatoes, and more! It definitely is a feast!

Outstanding October!

                            

October is a very busy month in kindergarten! In reading we are working on learning all of the letters, letter sounds, and kindergarten dolch words. In math we are learning numbers to 20, 2-D and 3-D shapes (including sphere and cube). In science we are learning about motion, gravity, day and night sky. Please send in the field trip permission slip, medical form, and $7.00 donation by Wednesday, October 27th. I hope to see everyone at conference week and Trunk-or-Treat!!!

Super September!

     

       Goodbye August, hello September! These past couple of weeks we have been learning about the helpers in our community, such as police officers, construction workers, doctors, dentists, and veterinarians. We even had a real firefighter visit our classroom, and he taught us all about fire safety.

       In the next few weeks we will be learning about animals, fall, and numbers 0-10. Please continue to read with your child at home and practice the letters of the alphabet and numbers to 10. Thanks!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

We have been in school for 2 weeks now! The students are understanding the rules and routines of kindergarten. 

Our daily schedule is as follows:

8:00-9:10 Calendar, Math Lesson, and Math Centers

9:10-9:30 Outside

9:30-10:40 Reading Lesson and Reading Groups

10:40-11:20 Specials (Mon-Wed) PE, music, art, computer lab

11:26-11:56 Lunch

12:00-12:30 Rest Time

12:30-1:00 Science/Social Studies Lesson

1:00-1:30 Writer's Workshop

1:30-2:00 Centers

2:00 Pack-up/Dismissal

Please read with your child every night, and sign the reading log! Some other skills that you may work on include: writing names, counting to 30, and recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Fun in the Fall!!!

                                                           

We are having a wonderful year in Kindergarten and already have so many accomplishments! We are working hard to earn our Ice-Cream scoops, by learning all of the letters, letter sounds, and 40 kindergarten Dolch words.

Our field trip to Imagine It! Children's Museum was a blast! We got to explore and play in several different stations, including Moon Sand, dress-up, paint, water, food, and machines. Everyone had a wonderful time!

Marvelous May!

I cannot believe that we are already in the month of May! This school year has flown by! We are really getting prepared to be first graders. We will begin learning subtraction and continue working on more difficult addition problems. We will wrap up our study of animals and review concepts we have learned throughout the year.

I have really enjoyed having your children in my class this year. They definitely keep me laughing and on my toes. I will truly miss them this summer, but I am certain that they will have a wonderful time in first grade.

It is hard to believe that we are now in the month of April! This year is flying by, but we still have a lot coming up in kindergarten!

After Spring Break, we will begin learning about how to group animals and how to compare animals and their offspring. We will continue to learn addition skills and begin subtraction. We will also be having some new additions to our classroom...BABY CHICKS! We will get to see them hatch out of eggs and grow for a week before they have to go back to the farm. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Spring Break!

Fabulous February!

February will be an exciting month in kindergarten. We will celebrate "Pancake Day" on February 9th. We will be cooking delicious pancakes and reading books about pancakes! On February 12th, the fifth graders from Mt. Bethel elementary will be visiting and helping us with Valentine crafts, reading books to us, and eating lunch in the room with us! It will be a fun filled day! Class picture day is on February 13th. The school Valentine dance is that night.

There is no school on Monday, February 16th for Presidents' Day. Have your child tell you about Presidents Lincoln, Washington, and Obama.

Also in February, we will have two presentations about keeping our teeth healthy! We will learn how to brush, floss, and eat healthy.

The last week of February we will begin celebrating Dr. Seuss! We will be reading his books and doing Seuss activities.
