March News

We are working on fractions and decimals at this time.  We will also be studying weight.  Students will learn about customary and metric units of weight.  The units we will focus on include ounce, pound, ton, gram, and kilogram.  Help your child to understand the everyday uses of weight.  The grocery store is a good place to reinforce these skills.  Help your child use the weight scales in the produce department, or read and compare the weight of various items on the grocery shelves.  In science will be learning about the stars and solar system.  Students always enjoy this unit.  Ask your child what he/she is learning, and you are sure to find out something fascinating!

February News

We are very busy in the classroom.  We are working hard to review and prepare for the CRCT test that will be coming in a few weeks.  Students should be reading each evening and diligently practicing their multiplication math facts.  In math, we are studying fractions and decimals.  We will soon begin a study on weight including pounds, ounces, grams, and kilograms.  Beginning the week of February 25th we will begin a unit on the stars and solar system.  Students are already reading and writing about planets.  It is important for students to get enough sleep each night and to eat a good breakfast each morining.

Water Cycle and Weather

For the past few weeks we have been learning about how the water cycle works and affects our daily lives.  We made water cycle bags and have been able to see the water cycle in action in our classroom.  We have learned about how the water cycle is a part of our weather and how we can predict weather using a weather map.  We continue to collect weather data using the internet and plan to take part in using weather instruments to collect data first hand as the year progresses.  We have discussed the types of clouds and precipitation that occur.  This has been a interesting unit and the class has learned how important the water cycle is for everyone.

Youth Museum Field Trip

Today was an exciting day as we ended our unit on the American Revolution with a visit to the Cobb County Youth Museum. The kids dressed up and acted out the events leading to the war, important battles in the war, and then attended the Constitutional Convention.

All the kids did a terrific job reading their parts! We had lots of "aha" moments as we heard about information we had learned in school.

Please post your favorite part about our field trip and one new thing you learned.

American Revolution

As we near the end of our studies about the American Revolution student's completed research projects.  Each student selected a person from the time period to investigate.  First, they researched using books and the internet.  Then they decided how to present the information.  Their choices included creating a Power Point, timeline, skit, or poster.  Finally, each individual, pair, or group presented their project to the class.  Watch the blog for pictures to come.
