There is a crispness in the air that lets us know that fall is here. This year we are learning about weather and water. Students learned how scientists called meteorolgists use weather instruments to collect data. This data helps them to make predictions called forecasts. We also learned that weather has different types of precipitation such as rain, snow, sleet, and hail. Temperature has much to do with what type of precipitation we could have. We talked about the different scales used to measure temperature (Farenheit and Celcius). You can help your student to maintain their knowledge by watching weather forecasts on the news and discussing what they hear and see. You can also help them to observe what they hear and see outside each day with the weather.
We have moved on to social studies. We are studying about economics. We will be applying what we learn to historical events that we will also be discussing this year. We will try to apply what we know about economics to the lifestyles of Native Americans, early explorers, and the early colonists that came to settle the new world. Discuss with your child how earning, spending, and saving work in your family. This will help them to see how economics applies to everyone.
We will be going on a field trip soon to the the Fire Safety Village. Please be sure to watch for permission slip forms that we will be sending home. The permission forms are necessary for your child to take part in the field trip.
